Explore research into how Transcendental Meditation may support stress reduction, resilience and emotional wellbeing, including its use alongside established approaches in recovery and rehabilitation settings.
Recovery is about more than healing the body or mind. Rehabilitation is about rebuilding resilience, improving emotional balance and making healthier decisions for the future. Transcendental Meditation (TM) is a simple, natural technique practised for 20 minutes twice daily. Research has examined TM in relation to stress, emotional wellbeing and self-regulation, including among people experiencing recovery or rehabilitation. Individual findings should be considered in the context of each study’s design and limitations. TM is not a medical treatment or a substitute for professional care, but it may support established rehabilitation and recovery approaches.
Research has examined how Transcendental Meditation may support recovery and rehabilitation across a range of settings, including healthcare, addiction recovery, correctional facilities and veterans’ wellbeing. Our featured study provides a useful introduction to this growing body of evidence.
Post-traumatic stress disorder can have a profound impact on mental health, relationships and everyday functioning. This randomised controlled study examined whether Transcendental Meditation could help military veterans with PTSD. The study reported reductions in PTSD symptoms and improvements in psychological wellbeing among participants practising Transcendental Meditation. The findings support further consideration of TM as a possible adjunct to established treatment and rehabilitation approaches.
Whether you’re recovering from illness, injury, trauma or life’s setbacks, discover how Transcendental Meditation may support resilience, emotional wellbeing and positive long-term change.
